Welcome to 6th Grade!
We are looking forward to meeting the newest members of our SCMS family and eager to watch our students grow academically, socially and emotionally! Building a partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential is one of our top priorities. We recognize that children need support from both home and school in order to experience success. As partners, we share the responsibility for our childrens’ success and want you to know that we will always strive to do our best. We ask that you guide and support your child by ensuring that he/she follow these policies that we have found help students to succeed at SCMS:
PHONE POLICY
FOLDERS
HOODS
BINDERS
Thank you so much for your support. We are excited to watch your child grow this year and build a partnership for success!

- All phones must be POWERED OFF and OUT OF SIGHT during the school day. The only exception is that students may use their phones in the lunchroom area.
- If parents need to contact students during the day, please call the student office at 810-591-1701.
- We would suggest students keep their phones in a pencil pouch to keep it protected and out of sight.
- Any violations will be assigned a detention.
FOLDERS
- All students will be provided with a HOMEWORK folder at the beginning of the year. This is an excellent home communication tool. They will take this folder to every class and home every night. All homework and assignments to be turned in will be placed in this folder (along with hall passes).
- PLEASE ask to see the folder every night. This is where all unfinished work should be located. Many teachers will ask for graded work to come home in this as well. The graded work should be removed each night.
- If a student does not bring his/her folder to every class , they will be considered “Unprepared for Class”.
- Folders contain hallpasses and a student must have a pass to leave class.
- Students will also randomly receive positive rewards for bringing and using their folders.
HOODS
- All hoods must remain down and not be lifted to cover any part of a student’s head. It is a safety concern when we cannot identify students as they move through the halls.
BINDERS
- No large trapper keeper binders please (the type with handles and zippers). They will not fit in lockers.
Thank you so much for your support. We are excited to watch your child grow this year and build a partnership for success!
